U18 NPL match report 19/01/2019

On a 36 degree day Quinns fc U18 played UWA at Riverlinks park Somerly,
UWA started the game very fast, they were a bigger side overall than our boys and you could see they wanted to make that count, we were second to 80% of the play and conceded from a well taken corner, leaving a 6’2” player on the back post to head home. That didn’t shake our boys and we opted to carry on with the long ball , which is the total opposite of what we have been training on, UWA were just picking up our long ball and punting it long to fast boys up front, which payed off for them as that’s how they got their second goal.
Well at the break we had a word with the boys and asked them to get the ball played out from the back maintaining possession and getting UWA chasing for a while. It paid off quickly as we carved them up with some really good play, 2 goals from good possession play were quick coming, 2-2.
We asked the boys to mix it a little in the final 20 to capitalise on our superior play and we got our rewards a nice diagonal ball out wide which was squared across the goal to be slotted in at the far post, 3-2 up we knew they would go route one and direct,
The last 2 mins we conceded corners and throws but help our lead.
Final score was on possession based play only a fair result.
Well Done Boys
And a big thanks to the U16 that stepped up again
